Is Online Poker Legal in Florida?

An online poker room that is licensed and regulated by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission in Quebec, Canada is currently legal in Florida. The company offering this service is PokerStars.

There has been much debate over whether or not online poker is legal in the state of Florida. In October of 2015, Governor Rick Scott signed a bill into law that made it illegal for residents to play online poker. However, this law is unconstitutional as it conflicts with a federal law that allows online gambling.

In July of 2016, a US district court ruled that the federal law does not prohibit online poker and reversed the ban in Florida. This means that there is now a legal online poker market in the state of Florida.

While PokerStars is currently the only company licensed to provide online poker in Florida, there are others that are looking to enter the market. This will likely continue to be a contentious issue as opponents of online poker argue that it is an illegal form of gambling and should be banned.

However, supporters of online poker argue that it should be regulated like traditional casino games and offer players more fairness and security than traditional casinos.
