If the player drAWS a card that is higher than any of the previously held cards, they are given the opportunity to “double down” (put another dollar into the pot) or “stand” (keep all of their original money in the pot).
In recent years, some casinos have begun offering a variation of 5-card draw called “Caesars.” In this game, the player is dealt five cards, with one exception – instead of being able to draw another card, they are instead given the option to “lay down” a fifth card.
The object of the game is to either make a total of 21 (a “pair” of two same cards), or better. If a player lays down a card that is higher than any of their other cards, they are then given the option to either lay down another card or “double down.” .
So far, there does not appear to be a definitive answer as to whether Caesars has an advantage over traditional 5-card draw when it comes to winning money.
