Blackjack is a game of chance where players compete against the dealer to see who can make the best hand. The dealer starts the game with two cards face-up – a 10 and an Ace. The player can either draw one card, or place one bet on either a hand with a ten or an Ace.
If the player has an Ace, they can “stand” and take no further action. If the player has a ten, they can either place another bet or draw another card.
If the player has a higher card than the dealer’s card, they are said to have “busted” and lose their bet. If the player has a lower card than the dealer’s card, they are said to have “won” and collect their original bet plus any additional winnings from their hand.
The highest card in blackjack is an Ace, which means that it beats any other card in the deck – including the Ten. Therefore, if you are playing blackjack and you are dealt an Ace, it is always best to stand and not draw any cards.
