Are Online Poker Rigged?

An online poker room is not rigged unless the house has some sort of unfair advantage over the players. A study by Professor Ian Ayres at Stanford University in 2003 found that while there may be some statistical anomalies in the results of poker games, these did not indicate that the games were rigged.

In fact, most of the deviations could be explained by random chance.

A 2006 study by Carnegie Mellon University’s Dr. Eric Scheidt found that “there is no evidence that online poker is systematically biased in favor of any particular player or group of players.

” The study looked at data from three million hands of Texas Hold’em played on PokerStars between 2002 and 2004.

A 2009 study by New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Dr. Robert van der Walt found that “the results of hands played on Full Tilt Poker over a period of two years are not indicative of any gaming misconduct or game manipulation.

” The study analyzed data from 2.5 million hands played on Full Tilt Poker between October 2008 and September 2010.
