Are Slots Legal in Illinois?

An overview of Illinois gambling law reveals that slots are not currently legal in the state. Gambling is a criminal offence in Illinois, and any form of gambling is prohibited by statute (Section 10-9.

1 of the Illinois Criminal Code). This means that slot machines, lottery tickets, and other forms of gambling are all illegal in Illinois.

Although slots are not currently legal in Illinois, this does not mean they will never be legalized. In 2015, the Illinois General Assembly passed a bill that would allow slot machines at horse racing tracks and other pari-mutuel facilities.

However, this bill has yet to be signed into law by the Governor. If it is signed into law, slots would only be legal in Illinois if they are operated by a licensed casino provider.

There is some speculation as to whether or not slots will eventually be legalized in Illinois. However, at this point it is unclear whether or not they will ever be allowed to operate legally in the state.
