Are There Still Wild Mustangs on Blackjack Mountain?

There are still wild Mustangs on Blackjack Mountain, but the herd is shrinking. A study conducted by the University of Nevada, Reno in 2015 found that the Mustang population on Blackjack Mountain had decreased by at least 50% from 1970 to 2002.

The researchers attribute this decline to a number of factors, including habitat loss and fragmentation, predation by non-native wildlife, and human disturbance and activities.

Despite these challenges, there are still a few hundred Mustangs remaining on Blackjack Mountain. Rangers continue to protect the herd and work to restore their habitat.

Given the Mustang’s endangered status and dwindling population, it is important that we do all we can to preserve this wild horse.
