Can a Blackjack Dealer Cheating?

A blackjack dealer can cheat in two ways: by counting cards and by marking cards.

Carding is when the dealer counts the number of cards that have been played as well as the number of face-up cards in the deck. This allows the dealer to get an idea of what’s likely to be coming up next in the hand, which can give them an advantage.

Marking cards is when the dealer makes any physical alteration to a card, such as bending it, so that it can’t be used in the hand. This can give the dealer an unfair advantage over the player, since they will know what card is being played before it’s revealed.

There have been cases where blackjack dealers have been caught cheating and been fined or even imprisoned. However, it’s still possible for them to cheat without being caught.

So while cheating is definitely not tolerated in blackjack, it’s still a fairly common occurrence.
