There is no question that the World Series of Poker (WSOP) is the world’s best-known and most prestigious poker tournament. Held annually in Las Vegas, the WSOP is a mammoth event, with over 7,500 entrants in 2017.
However, not everyone can play in the WSOP.
The WSOP is open to professionals who have attained a certain level of poker skill. In order to be eligible to play in the WSOP, players must first be certified by the United States Poker Federation (USPFR).
The USPFR administers a number of different professional poker tournaments around the world, including the WSOP. In order to be certified by USPFR, a player must first pass a series of tests demonstrating their poker skills.
There are also a number of other requirements that must be met before players are allowed to register for the WSOP. These requirements vary from year to year, but typically include demonstrating financial stability, having no criminal history, and having a valid visa for playing in the United States.
Despite these restrictions, there are still a number of talented amateur players who attempt to qualify for the WSOP each year. Some of these amateur players become successful professionals after qualifying for and playing in the WSOP.
However, most amateur players are unable to make it past the initial qualifying stages and never get a chance to compete against some of the world’s best poker players.
