Can You Bet Inside and Outside in Roulette?

There is a common saying that goes “You can’t win if you don’t play.” This is especially true in casino games like roulette where the house has an edge over the player.

However, that doesn’t mean that players can’t make some money by betting on certain numbers or colors.

The Basics of Roulette

In roulette, players bet on numbers (0-36), colors (black, red, green, and yellow), or even both numbers and colors. The numbers and colors available on the wheel determine which bets are available.

For example, black only appears on the number 0 and 36. Red only appears on the number 2, 3, 18, and 19.

Players place bets by spinning the wheel. The wheel has 36 slots for bets.

After a player has placed a bet, he or she can either spin again to see if the bet was successful or take a “ticket” from the dealer to see what number and color was chosen. If a player does not want to spin again but still wants to see what number and color was chosen for their bet, they can ask for a “show” or “provisional” ticket.

Betting Inside and Outside in Roulette

Inside bets are bets placed on specific numbers that are shown by the dealer before he or she spins the wheel. For example, if a player wants to place a bet on number 6, they would put their money into one of the slots next to 6 on the wheel. This is an inside bet because it’s based on what numbers will actually be shown before the wheel is spun.

Outside bets are any other kind of bet that doesn’t involve betting on specific numbers. For example, if a player wanted to place a bet on whether black would be shown before or after red on the wheel, this would be an outside bet since there is no set order for which numbers will appear on the wheel before it’s spun.
