Can You Double Down on 21 in Blackjack?

The answer to this question is a resounding “No!” Although doubling down on 21 in blackjack may seem like a smart move, the odds are stacked against you. First of all, doubling down only pays off if the original bet is a winning combination (two of a kind, three of a kind, etc.), so it’s not always the best strategy. Second, the house always gets to choose which cards to deal, so if the dealer has an Ace in her hand and you double down, she may instead choose to give you a card that would ruin your chances of winning.

Finally, even if you do manage to win with a double down play, you’ll likely lose more money than you would if you had simply stuck to your original bet. So unless you’re absolutely sure that you can beat the odds and make some big bucks with 21 in blackjack, it’s best to stay away from this risky proposition.
