Can You Legally Play Poker Online in the US?

The legality of playing poker online in the United States is up for debate. While some states have lAWS that specifically prohibit online poker, others have not made a clear distinction between online and offline poker. In May of 2015, the US Department of Justice released a statement that stated that “Poker is a game of skill.

” This means that under federal law, online poker is legal. However, some states may have different lAWS, and thus online poker may not be legal in those states.

In light of the Department of Justice’s statement, most licensed US poker sites operate in accordance with state law. While some sites may offer their players state-specific benefits or promotions, most sites do not prohibit their players from playing at other sites should they choose to do so.

In addition, many US poker players are able to play online through overseas websites without issue.

At present, there is no definitive answer as to whether or not playing online poker in the United States is legal or not. However, based on the current legal landscape, it appears that playing online poker is generally safe and permissible under federal law.
