Did Russian Roulette Originate in Russia?

Russian roulette is a game of chance in which a player spins a wheel containing six chambers, each of which may contain one of six different numbers. The player who guesses the number in the chamber with the bullet that has been placed in it wins the game.

There is no sure way to win, and Russian roulette is often considered one of the most dangerous games to play.

The game likely originated in Europe, but it may have been brought to Russia by Catherine the Great. Russian roulette is sometimes referred to as “Catherine’s Wheel.” In 1867, a Russian nobleman by the name of Nicholas Zukov invented a variation of Russian roulette called “The Lady.” This variant replaced the traditional wheel with a panel of 26 cards, with each card having two possible values.

The player could choose to risk either money or an item such as jewelry. If he lost an item, he would not lose money. However, if he lost money, he would lose his entire stake in The Lady.
