Did the Inventor of Roulette Kill Himself?

There is no definitive answer to this question as it is still unknown whether or not the inventor of roulette, Georges Martel, killed himself. However, there are a few factors that suggest that he may have done so. First, in 1874, Martel was reported to have suffered from a severe mental illness that caused him to become paranoid and delusional. Second, in 1892, shortly after he filed a patent for roulette, Martel was found dead in his home with a gunshot wound to the head.

Third, shortly before his death, Martel had been involved in a financial dispute with another casino owner and it is possible that he committed suicide as a way of getting back at his rival. In short, there is evidence that suggests Martel may have killed himself and though the circumstances surrounding his death are still unknown, it is possible that he took his own life due to his mental illness and financial difficulties.
