There are 36 black and 36 red roulette numbers on a standard European roulette wheel. The numbers are placed in a spiral on the wheel, starting at 0 and going around to 36.
The only number that can not be placed in any position on the wheel is 18.
The roulette ball is shot onto the roulette wheel by a croupier, who uses his or her hand to help guide it to one of the 36 numbered slots on the wheel. The ball then spins around the slot, and the croupier announces which number has been hit by the ball.
If you bet on a number that has been hit, you win your bet and receive money from your casino. If you bet on a number that hasn’t been hit yet, you lose your bet and don’t receive any money.
