How Are Spell Slots Calculated?

Spell slots are calculated in a number of ways, the most common being based on the caster’s level and the spell’s level. The slot calculation is as follows:

Level – Level of spell being cast

– Level of spell being cast Spell’s Level – Spell’s level as listed in the spell book or sheet

– Spell’s level as listed in the spell book or sheet Slot Multiplier – This number is determined by the caster’s class and is typically 1.5 for levels 1-19, 2 for levels 20-29, and 2.

5 for levels 30+. The higher the multiplier, the more powerful the slot bonus will be.

– This number is determined by the caster’s class and is typically 1.5 for levels 30+.

Bonus Experience – Based on how many Experience Levels are between caster level and spell level (1st to 9th, 10th to 19th, etc.), a percentage of experience points will be added to a character’s total experience each time they cast a spell with a slotting that matches their experience level. For instance, casting a 9th-level spell with a 10th-level slotting will grant 50% more experience than casting it with a 1st-level slotting. This bonus experience does not stack with other sources of bonus experience (such as treasure).
