How Are Winnings Calculated in Blackjack?

In blackjack, the player’s goal is to reduce their hand to as few cards as possible, in order to achieve a hand of 21. The player wins if they achieve this, and loses if they are dealt a hand that exceeds 21.

To achieve a hand of 21, the player must have at least 2 cards of the same rank and either 2 cards of different ranks or 1 card of different ranks and 1 card of the same rank. The player is not allowed to have any two cards of the same rank.

The player’s hand is then reduced by discarding any card from it, until it reaches a value of 21. If they are unable to discard a card to reach 21, they lose the game.

In order to win money in blackjack, the house edge (the amount by which the casino profits over the course of a given game) is typically around 0.5%.

This means that for every $100 wagered by the player, the casino will typically take $50 back in winnings.
