How Did the MIT Team Beat the Odds in Blackjack?

In 2006, a team of researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) devised a method for playing blackjack that defied traditional odds. The MIT team’s approach, called “card counting,” relies on the player’s ability to estimate the number of cards remaining in the deck.

By doing this, a player can make educated guesses about how many cards are still worth playing.

The MIT team’s method was not without risk, however. If the player’s estimates were incorrect, they could lose money.

But with careful play, the MIT team was able to beat the odds and win more money than they would have otherwise. In fact, their method is so successful that casinos now use it as a form of cheating protection.
