How Do Roulette Dealers Keep Track?

The roulette wheel is a circular device with 36 slots, each of which has six numbers, 0-5. The wheel is spun by the dealer, who uses a handheld wheel controller to select one of the numbers.

The player then places their bet on that number. The wheel continues to turn until it comes to a stop on a number that the player has selected – either as their bet or as the number that has been randomly selected by the wheel.

If the wheel stops on a number that the player has not selected, then that number is called a “natural”. If the wheel stops on a number that the player has selected, then that number is called a “queen”.

If the wheel stops on any other number, then that number is called a “pusher”.

Once the wheel has stopped on a number, it becomes “in play” and can be used by either side in subsequent bets. The dealer then counts down from 36 – starting with 1 – and presents each of the six numbers to the player. The player must place their bet before the dealer presents the next number.

If the player bets on any of the “roulette red” numbers (0, 2, 4, 6, 8), then they lose their bet and must replace their bet with another coin or chip. If they bet on any other number, they win their bet and collect their winnings.
