How Do You Calculate Spell Slots in D&D 5e?

Spell slots in Dungeons & Dragons (5e) are determined by the spell’s level. A spell’s level is equal to the caster level of the spellcaster using it. For example, a 3rd-level wizard casts a 2nd-level spell using a slot.

The spell would use up a 2nd-level slot and a 1st-level slot. A 4th-level wizard casts a 3rd-level spell using a slot, for example.

A spell’s level also determines how many slots it uses. For example, a 1st-level wizard can cast only 1st- and 2nd-level spells, while a 9th-level wizard can cast any spell of 9th level or higher.
