In blackjack, the player bets on whether the dealer will beat them with a hand of 21. If the player bets on black, and the dealer has a hand of 21, the player loses.
If the player bets on red, and the dealer has a hand of 21, the player wins. In order to make money playing blackjack, it is important to understand how to beat the dealer.
The most basic way to beat the dealer is to have a high-card hand (A, K, Q, J, 10 or Ace). With these cards, you can either win outright (if you are betting on black) or force the dealer to hit (if you are betting on red).
For example, if you are playing with an Ace and the dealer has a two (or any other low card), you can either win outright or force the dealer to hit with an Eight or Ten.
Another strategy is to use multiple hands. For example, if you are playing with an A and a two-card hand (two Tens or Jacks), you can bet on black and risk losing your A but still have a chance of winning if the Dealer has a Ten or Queen in her hand.
This is called “splitting.”.
Finally, it is also important to know when to fold your cards. Sometimes it is best not to risk anything at all and just let the Dealer win whatever hand she is playing.
Other times, it may be worth risking one or two cards in order to gain an advantage in future hands.
