The game of Pai Gow Poker is a variation of the poker game that is played with four cards. The object of the game is to either form a straight or a flush.
The player who forms the best hand wins the hand.
To play Pai Gow Poker, you must first determine how many cards you will be playing with. This will range from two to five cards.
After you have determined how many cards you will be playing with, deal four cards face down to each player, leaving one card face up on the table. The remaining card is placed in the middle of the deck and is known as the “joker.”.
The player to the dealer’s left starts the game by placing one bet. This bet will be equal to the number of chips in that player’s stack.
After this bet has been placed, each player in turn must place another bet, doubling up if they wish. The bets are placed in front of the player and not counted towards their stack.
Once all bets have been placed, the dealer flips over the top card of the deck and sets it down in front of them. This card is known as “the turn.” The next card revealed from the deck is called “the river.
” If this card is a “high” or “low” card, then different rules will apply depending on which type of hand has been formed. If no hands have been formed, then another card is revealed and play continues as normal.
To form a hand in Pai Gow Poker, you must use at least two of your four cards together and rank them from highest to Lowest. For example, if you are playing with three cards and they are A, 2, 3; then your hand would be: A-3-2-1. If two cards are used together but not ranked in order, then they would both count as part of your hand (e.g., 2-2 would be considered a full house).
If one card is used together with another card that has already been used (e.g., 2-2 would be considered a pair), then that second usage cancels out any previous usage (this includes both high and low cards).
After all four cards have been used, players compare their hands against each other using regular poker rules. The best hand wins the pot and players are eliminated from the game until someone wins a hand.
When all players have finished playing their hands, any remaining chips are added back to the pot and the next round begins.
