There is no advantage to making either of these bets over the other – they are simply two different ways of gambling with your money.
Doubles betting works a little differently than straight up betting. With doubles betting, you can either bet both your money and another stake (such as an action) on the same number or you can split your money between the two bets (for example, if you have $10 worth of money in your hand and want to bet $5 on black and $5 on red, you would do either one of the following: put $5 in black, put $5 in red, or put both $5 in blue).
If you choose to split your money between the two bets, then whichever number comes up first after being spun by the roulette wheel will determine which bet pays out – for example, if black comes up first after being spun by the wheel, then your bluebet would pay out ($5 x 36 = $120), but if red comes up first after being spun by the wheel, then your bluebet would not pay out ($5 x 36 = $0).
