How Do You Play Single Blackjack?

Single blackjack, also known as basic strategy, is a popular casino game that can be played with any number of players. The goal of the game is to achieve a hand that is as close to 21 as possible.

There are a few important concepts to understand when playing single blackjack: counting cards, card value, and hands.

Counting Cards
In single blackjack, each player is dealt two cards face down. The first card is turned over and the second card is kept hidden. The player then must decide whether or not to keep the first card or hit (put another bet into the pot). If the player hits, they look at their first card and if it is higher than the second card, they win the hand.

If the player does not hit, they look at both cards and decide which one to keep. After making this decision, the player turns over the top card of their deck (the new face up card). If it matches either of the two cards they looked at, they lose that hand. If it does not match either of those cards, they keep that hand and play another round.

Card Value
When playing single blackjack, each card has a different value. A 2 has a value of two points, while an Ace has a value of ten points.

At any time during a hand, a player may choose to stand (not put any more money into the pot) if they have an Ace or 2 in their hand. If they do not have either of these values, they must put money into the pot before playing another round of hands.

Hands
In single blackjack, each player starts with two hands (a total of four cards). At any time during a round of hands, a player may choose to draw one additional card (augment their hand size by one). After drawing one additional card and considering it along with their original two cards, the player must make a decision about whether or not to stay in the hand.

If they choose to stay in the hand and their total value (including any new drawn cards) falls below 21 (the minimum required bet), then they win that hand. If not, then they lose that hand and play another round.
