How Is Advantage Calculated in Blackjack?

Advantage is a fundamental concept in blackjack that refers to the player’s advantage over the dealer. In basic blackjack, the player has an advantage if he or she has more money than the dealer.

In some variants of blackjack, such as Spanish 21, the player also has an advantage if he or she has a higher hand rank than the dealer.

In more complex games, such as Double Down Blackjack, the player also has an advantage if he or she is playing with a pair of cards that are higher than any combination the dealer can make. In these games, called “super hands,” the player can win even if the dealer has a better hand.

All of these advantages come with risks, however. If the player doesn’t manage to hold on to his or her advantage, he or she can lose everything that was put into play.

Consequently, it is important for players to understand how advantage works and what role it plays in their game.
