How Many 7 Card Poker Hands Are There?

An article about how many 7 card poker hands there are can be a little confusing, so let’s break it down. In 7 card poker, each player is dealt a hand of 7 cards. The first five cards are face down, and the last two are face up. The Ace of Spades is the highest card in the deck, and therefore counts as 1 point.

After that, the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 cards count as points according to their rank. So if you have a four of spades in your hand, it would be worth 2 points. If you have an Ace of Spades, it would be worth 1 point plus the rank of the other cards in your hand.

There are a total of 36 possible hands in 7 card poker. That includes all possible combinations of rank and suit (Ace-2-3-4-5-6-7). So there are actually a lot more than 36 hands! Here’s an example:

If you have a two of clubs in your hand, it would be worth 2 points. If you have an Ace of clubs in your hand, it would be worth 1 point plus the rank of the other cards in your hand.

So there are actually 3 different hands with this combination – two with a two club and one with an Ace of clubs. There are 36 possible hands with two cards, so that’s actually not that many!.
