How Many Cards Do You Have in Blackjack?

In blackjack, the player has a hand of cards – usually five. The goal is to make as many points as possible by drawing cards until the player has a total of 21.

If the player had an Ace, they would “push” (put) it over to the next player and keep their original hand. .

There are three types of hands in blackjack: Basic, Plus, and Minus. The basic hand is five cards, with any two of those cards being of the same rank (two Aces, two Kings).

A Plus hand consists of at least one card that is higher than a basic hand (two Aces, one King or two Queens). A minus hand includes at least one card that is lower than a basic hand (two Deuces, one Two).

The goal in blackjack is to draw cards until you have a total of 21. If you have a Plus or Minus hand (with at least one card higher or lower than the Basic hand), you “push” (put) that card over to the next player and keep your original five cards.

If you’re playing with someone else in real life, you’ll probably want to play with different rules than if you’re playing online. Online rules usually call for counting cards instead of ranking them, so that even if you have a Plus or Minus hand, it still counts as a Basic hand.
