How Many Scovilles Is Roulette Doritos?

The Scoville scale is a rating system used to measure the intensity of chili peppers. The scale runs from zero to over 1,000, with the hottest pepper capable of producing a rating of over 1,000.

Interestingly, the Scoville scale does not directly correlate to heat ratings in other countries. For example, the Chile Pepper Institute website lists the heat level for a jalapeño pepper as 2,500 Scovilles, while the Scoville scale lists the heat level for a Carolina Reaper as 10,000 Scovilles.

The discrepancy likely has to do with how jalapeños and reapers are processed – in the US, jalapeños are dried and then rehydrated before they are evaluated on the Scoville scale, while in other countries they are dried and then crushed or ground.

So what does all this have to do with Roulette Doritos? Well, according to Snack Brands USA – the company that produces Roulette Doritos – their chili peppers measure in at 1,500 Scovilles each. This means that their peppers would rank at number 46 on the Scoville scale – right between a jalapeño pepper and a Carolina Reaper.
