How Many Slots Does a Stator Have?

An electric motor consists of a number of coils of wire wrapped around an iron or steel core. The coils are connected in series and the current through each coil produces a magnetic field that rotates the shaft.

When the current is interrupted, the field collapses and stops the shaft from turning.

The number of coils in a stator determines how many poles the stator has. A two-pole stator has two coils while a four-pole stator has four coils.

A six-pole stator has six coils.
