How Many Spell Slots Does an Artificer Have?

An artificer has a number of spell slots equal to 3 + their Intelligence modifier. This equals 6 spell slots at first level, and increases by 1 for every 2 levels thereafter.

For example, a 9th-level artificer would have 9 spell slots. An artificer can cast any spell they know without preparing it ahead of time, assuming they have the required components.

An artificer’s casting ability is Intelligence (spellcasting). They use their Intelligence modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a spell they cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spells with a somatic component (like magic missile) require the artificer to have their hands free. An artificer can’t cast spells with a range of self.

An artificer is proficient with light armor, shields, and simple weapons.
