How Many Splits Can You Do in Blackjack?

There are 21 possible hands in blackjack, each with a different number of cards. When playing with real money, casinos ordinarily give players two chances to hit or stand. That’s 21 chances in all. But that’s not all.

In practice, most people usually only hit or stand on around 15-20% of their hands. That means that on average, you’ll do about three splits (or “hands”).

So how many splits can you do in a row before you hit something valuable? The answer is: it depends. If you’re playing with basic strategy, which calls for playing strictly according to the odds, then you’re going to hit something valuable about once every four hands or so.

But if you’re using “advanced strategy”, which takes into account things like dealer tendencies and your personal deck composition, then you may be able to hit something valuable every hand or so.
