How Many Times Can You Split in Blackjack?

In blackjack, the dealer always deals one card at a time. The player then either takes the card or “splits” it, by putting money behind both cards.

(If the player has aces and two face cards, they can split any two cards, although this is not as common.) The player then decides which card to keep and which to discard.

The dealer then deals another card and repeats the process. If the player splits two cards and gets a total of 21 or more, they win the hand.

If not, the dealer wins.

There are many ways to split in blackjack: three times on an ace plus two cards, twice on an ace plus one card, three times on a two plus one card, twice on a two plus two cards and so on. However, the most common way to split is three times on an ace plus one card.

That is because it gives you a total of four chances to get 21 or more (three times with an ace and once with a card).
