In poker, the bet is the basic unit of play. A bet is typically a declaration by one player that he or she is willing to put money into the pot preflop.
The other players then make their own bets, called hands, which are all based on the poker hand that they hold.
There are three basic types of bets in poker: preflop, postflop, and all-in.
Preflop bets are made before any cards are revealed. These bets include one or more rounds of betting.
Bets can be small (1 or 2 chips) or large (10 or more chips). The most common bet size is five chips.
Postflop bets are made after all of the cards have been revealed, but before any hands have been played. Postflop bets include two types: check and call bets. Check bets are made when the player does not believe that he or she can beat the current hand, and call bets are made when the player believes that he or she can beat the current hand.
These bets can be either one chip (called a “bump”) or five chips (called a “bet”). The most common bet size is three chips.
All-in bets are made when a player believes that he or she has the best hand possible and is willing to put everything into the pot. All-in bets include both check and call bets, as well as a raise (which means putting more money into the pot than was originally put in by the other players).
The most common bet size is 10 chips.
