Is Blackjack Against a Dealer?

The answer to this question depends on the particular rules of Blackjack. In general, Blackjack is not against the dealer, but there are some variations where the house edge can be greater if the player plays against the dealer. For example, at some casinos, Blackjack is played with a deck of 52 cards and the player is dealt two cards face down and one card face up. In this game, the player must choose whether to hit or stand.

If the player hits, the dealer counters with a face card and the player then must decide whether to stand or hit again. If the player stands, then the dealer increases the bet by one unit and play proceeds as normal. If the player hits again, then the dealer doubles (or triples) the bet and play proceeds as normal.
