The legality of FanDuel, an online casino and sports betting company, has been called into question numerous times by various lawmakers and watchdog organizations. The Federal Trade Commission has brought several cases against the company, alleging that it engaged in deceptive advertising and making false claims about the benefits of its products.
In December 2017, a New York state judge ruled that FanDuel was not exempt from state gambling regulations, paving the way for a potential lAWSuit from the state. On July 12, 2018, the FTC announced that it had settled charges against FanDuel and its founder for $40 million.
The company agreed to stop making false claims about its products and to prohibit its employees from making any deceptive statements about them.
