Is It Legal to Own a Poker Machine?

As of now, there is no federal prohibition against owning or operating a poker machine in the United States. However, some states have lAWS that specifically prohibit poker machines. For example, in Nevada, it is unlawful to operate a “poker machine” without a gaming license. And in Illinois, it is illegal to own or operate a “poker machine” unless it is registered with the state ( IL Gambling Control Act Section 10-2).

Other states have less specific prohibitions on poker machines, and it is up to the individual municipality or county to determine whether or not poker machines are permissible. In general, though, it appears that as long as you are not violating any state or local lAWS governing gambling, you should be able to operate a poker machine without any problems.
