Is Online Poker Legal in New York?

The legality of online poker in New York is currently up for debate. The New York State Attorney General’s office has stated that online poker is a form of gambling and is therefore illegal under state law.

However, the New York legislature has proposed a bill that would legalize online poker in the state. If this bill is passed, it will be up to the New York Department of Financial Services (DFS) to determine whether or not online poker will be legal.

There are a number of factors that could lead to online poker being legalized in New York. First, if the DFS determines that online poker is not a form of gambling, then it could be licensed and regulated like other types of gambling businesses in the state.

Second, if the DFS finds that online poker is a form of gambling, then it could legalize it but place restrictions on how much money can be bet and how often players can play. Finally, if the DFS does not find that online poker is a form of gambling, then it could outlaw it completely.

At this point, it is unclear whether or not online poker will be legalized in New York. However, given the current legislative and regulatory environment, it seems likely that online poker will at least be allowed to continue operating in the state.
