Is Online Poker Legal in Virginia?

Internet poker is legal in Virginia as of January 1, 2014. The Virginia General Assembly passed a bill legalizing online poker in late 2013, and Governor Terry McAuliffe approved it on January 1st.

The law allows for licensed operators to offer online poker games to Virginia residents. Players must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license or state ID to participate.

There is a $1 minimum bet and arake up to $5,000 per game.

The law does not allow for live poker play, but there are several online poker sites that offer live play in Virginia. Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars, and BetOnline are all licensed operators in the state.
