Is Poker Legal in Massachusetts?

Poker is legal in Massachusetts. The state legislature passed a bill in 2012 legalizing poker and making it a parlor game.

The law allows for gambling establishments to offer poker as a form of entertainment, provided that players are not required to wear identifying markers or clothing. There is no limit on the amount of money that can be wagered, and casinos are only required to offer one or two hands of poker at a time.

Despite the legal status of poker, there has been limited interest in the game from Massachusetts residents. In 2014, only 655 people played poker in the state, compared to over 10 million players nationwide.

This may be due in part to the fact that Massachusetts imposes a 10 percent tax on winnings from poker games.
