Is Poker With Friends Illegal?

Poker with friends is not illegal in most parts of the world, but there are certain jurisdictions where it may be considered illegal. For example, in Nevada, poker with friends is legal, but online poker is not. In California, online poker is legal, but poker with friends is not. In New Jersey, online poker is legal, but poker with friends is not.

In Illinois, online poker is legal, but poker with friends is not. In Massachusetts, online poker is legal, but poker with friends is not.

In each of these states, it appears that the law may be interpreted to prohibit playing poker with friends in a social setting outside of an online casino or virtual cardroom environment. However, as long as the players are following the lAWS of their respective jurisdictions and are playing within the confines of the rules and regulations set forth by each gaming operator, playing poker with friends should not be considered illegal.
