Is Surrender a Good Bet in Blackjack?

Surrendering in blackjack is a gamble, but it can be a good one if the player understands the odds. In general, surrendering doubles the player’s chance of winning.

For example, if the player has a 20-count and is dealt a 2 and 3, surrendering would give the player a 44-count (20 + 16), which has a better chance of winning than any other possible hand. However, if the player has a 10-count and is dealt a 2 and 3, surrendering would give the player a 20-count (10 + 16), which has a worse chance of winning.

Players should always consult their personal odds to see whether surrendering is worth it in any given situation. Some casinos offer different odds for different types of hands, so players may have an even better chance of winning by surrendering in one casino but not another.
