Is There an AI for Poker?

There is no doubt that poker has been the subject of intense research by artificial intelligence (AI) experts for many years. Some believe that poker is the perfect game for artificial intelligence to learn how to play well.

Others believe that poker is too complex and unpredictable for AI to master.

In early 2017, two teams of computer scientists from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Texas at Austin announced that they had created a “deep learning” poker bot that could beat human professionals at their own game. However, this success was met with a great deal of skepticism from other experts in the field.

Some argue that even if the bot were to improve at a rate close to human skill, it would still be impossible for it to beat the best human players because their knowledge of the game is refined over many years of experience.

Others believe that even if AI cannot currently beat top human players, it may be able to develop strategies and tactics that could give it a competitive edge in the future. Regardless of whether or not AI can eventually become a successful poker player on its own, there is no doubt that the game has attracted a great deal of attention from experts in the field due to its potential for providing insights into human cognition and decision-making.
