Is There an Edge in Blackjack?

In blackjack, the house edge is 0.5%. That is, for every 100 hands played, the house would win 50 hands and lose 50 hands. So in theory, over the course of 1000 hands, the house would win 500 hands and lose 500 hands. However, in practice, the house edge varies depending on the particular casino. Some casinos have a higher edge than others.

For example, at a casino with a 1.8% house edge, for every 100 hands played the house would win 78 hands and lose 22 hands. At a casino with a 0.9% house edge, for every 100 hands played the house would win 91 hands and lose 9 hand.

So while there is no definitive answer to whether or not there is an “edge” in blackjack, in practice there usually is some sort of edge given the variability of casino edges.
