Should I Stand on 17 Blackjack?

There is no definitive answer to this question as it depends on a person’s individual playing style, goals, and bankroll. However, in general, most experts would recommend against standing on 17 blackjack.

There are a few reasons for this. First, most casinos allow players to stand on just about any card if they have a positive total (over 21).

On 17 blackjack, however, the player’s total is only 18 (one less than the dealer’s ace), which means that the player has a significantly worse chance of winning than if they had stayed in the hand.

Second, casinos often have stiffer penalties for players who stand than for those who hit. For example, if the player stands and the dealer hits an ace (a total of 18), the player would lose their bet and their original bet plus any additional chips they may have deposited would be taken from them.

If the player hits and the dealer misses (a total of 16), the player would only lose their original bet and any additional chips they may have deposited. In both cases, the casino would generally give the player an opportunity to correct their mistake before taking any additional action.

Finally, there is always the possibility that another player at the table will get hot and make a lucky strike that can turn a losing situation into a winning one. Even if you do manage to win on 17 blackjack, you’ll likely end up losing more money in the process than you would have if you had just stayed in the hand.
