What Are Royals in Blackjack?

Royal cards are the highest-ranking cards in a deck of playing cards. They are ranked above Jacks, Queens, and Kings.

The Ace of Spades is the highest-ranking royal card, and is considered the “king” of all cards. Royal cards are used to make higher-value hands, and can be worth up to five times as much as a regular card.

When playing blackjack, it’s important to remember that royals are worth more than regular cards. If you have a hand with aces up and a seven or eight as the second card, for example, using a regular two-card hand would give you a 21 (two tens plus one card).

However, if you have an ace-high hand with a seven or an eight as the second card, using a royal two-card hand would give you a 33 (one ten plus two cards). This is because the ace is worth ten in blackjack, while the seven and eight are both worth eleven.
