What Are the House Rules for Blackjack?

Casinos vary in their house rules for blackjack, but in general the rules are as follows:

1. The dealer starts the game with two cards face down and one card face up.

The player can either draw from the deck or place a bet.

2. The player can only hit if both cards dealt are of the same rank, and if the total of the two cards hit is less than or equal to the player’s hand value.

Aces are worth 1 point, 2s through 10s are worth face value, and a jack (J) is worth 10 points. A player cannot stand (hit) on a two (2) or three (3).

3. If the player loses all of their chips, they are out of the game.

If they still have chips after being out, they may continue playing with one or more replacement chips per hand.

4. If the player gets a blackjack, they win the pot regardless of any other cards that were dealt.

If they get a two-card hand that total is less than or equal to their original bet, they lose half of their bet instead.
