What Are the Odds for Roulette?

In roulette, players are dealt a number of chips (usually five) and then placed in a circle around the wheel. The roulette wheel has 36 slots, each numbered from 1 to 36.

The player bets on one of the numbers on the wheel, either by putting chips on that number or by betting on “odds” (a combination of numbers).

The odds for any particular number are established by the casino, and can vary depending on the game being played. In “European Roulette” (also known as French Roulette), for example, the odds for a number are typically 2-1 (meaning that for every $2 bet, the casino expects to receive $1 back).

In “American Roulette,” meanwhile, the odds are usually 3-2 (meaning that for every $3 bet, the casino expects to receive $2 back).

The roulette wheel is spun and the player’s bet is placed on any open number. If their bet is correct – that is, if their chosen number comes up as the number being played – they win their original bet plus any additional winnings allocated to that particular slot.

If their bet is incorrect – that is, if their chosen number does not come up as the number being played – they lose their original bet plus any additional losses allocated to that particular slot.
