Poker is a card game that is played with five cards. The object of the game is to get as close to the pot as possible by playing cards until you have the best hand.
There are three main positions at a poker table: the player, dealer, and caller (or raiser).
The player is the first person to receive a hand of five cards. The player has two options: they can either keep their hand or bet (put money into the pot). If the player keeps their hand, they will either draw cards or discard one card.
If the player bets, they will either call (put money into the pot) or raise (add more money to their bet). The dealer will deal the player five cards and then turn over another card, revealing the next card in the deck – this is called “turning over the river.”.
The caller (or raiser) is the second person to receive a hand of five cards. The caller has two options: they can either call (put money into the pot) or raise (add more money to their bet). If the caller calls, they will receive four new cards and must continue playing with what they have.
If the caller raises, then all other players at the table must also raise their bets – this is called “raising.” The dealer will then re-deal four new cards to all players, and this process will continue until someone folds or everyone has played all of their cards.
