What Are the Rules for a Straight in Poker?

When playing poker, there are a few ground rules that everyone must follow. The first is that every player must ante up, even if they have a strong hand.

The second rule is that any player who folds can’t subsequently raise until the next opportunity to do so. Finally, there are some specific hand rankings that are important to keep in mind when playing poker.

The ranking of hands is as follows: A straight (three cards of the same rank) is the highest ranking hand, followed by two pairs (two cards of the same rank), then one pair (one card of the same rank). When two players are involved in a hand, the player with the higher ranking straight or better will usually win.
