What Does S Mean in Blackjack?

“S” in blackjack means “split,” and is used to indicate that the player wants to surrender half of their hand.
When playing blackjack, if you have a hand that totals 21 or more, you automatically win the hand.

However, if you have a hand that totals 20 or less (even if it includes a “s”), then you must draw cards to continue playing. In both cases, the dealer must also draw cards (and may end up with a weaker hand).

If you have a hand totaling 18-19 (or any other combination that is not considered a “s”), then you can choose to “double down” on that hand. This means that you will pay another bet equal to the total of your original bet plus two additional chips.

If you win the hand, then you get all of your original chips back plus the additional chips. If you lose the hand, then you lose the original bet and the additional chips. .

Keep in mind that “s” in blackjack does not always mean “split.” For example, if you have a hand totaling 10-11, then it is not considered a “s” and you would not be allowed to surrender half of your hand.
