What Does Soft Total Mean in Blackjack?

There are a few different types of soft totals in blackjack. Soft total is the most common, and it’s simply the sum of all the cards dealt so far.

Hard total is a little more complicated, and it’s the sum of all the cards that would be put in the deck if a deal were made right then and there. A hard total can be either positive (more cards are put into the deck than were taken out) or negative (more cards are taken out than are put in).

In general, hard totals are more important than soft totals. If you have a positive hard total, that means you’re ahead by a certain amount – for example, if you have a hard total of 21, you’re ahead by two cards.

If you have a negative hard total, that means you’re behind by a certain amount – for example, if you have a hard total of 10, you’re behind by four cards.

When playing blackjack, it’s important to keep both your soft and hard totals in mind. If you have a positive soft total, try to make more hands where thehard total is also positive – this will help increase your chances of winning.

Conversely, if you have a negative soft total, try to make more hands where thehard total is also negative – this will help decrease your chances of losing.
